CHAMP's Goal
The goal of the CHild Access to Mental Health and Psychiatry service, or CHAMP, is to improve access to care for at-risk populations with mental health concerns and behavioral challenges by assisting the medical providers who treat them throughout Mississippi. Populations span from pediatric, adolescents, young adult, and perinatal. CHAMP provides quick access to free peer-to-peer psychiatric consultation and resource referrals to medical providers seeing patients right where they are – in the medical home.
CHAMP is a non-urgent, educational consultation services only and at no time takes on the care of the patient nor has direct patient involvement. Instead, CHAMP delivers education on a variety of specific topics pertaining to early childhood development, child mental health, and perinatal mental health. We measure our success by medical providers' increased confidence in their ability to treat mental health issues and the improved mental health of the populations they treat in Mississippi.
